Old meets new
What was once a bit of a dive is now a pleasant place to walk. Forbury Gardens has been around since the 1850s. The Maiwand Lion was added in the late 1880s to commemorate the deaths of members of the 66th Berkshire Regiment during the campaign in Afghanistan. Its the site of the first meeting of Lily's Great Grandparents over 50 years ago as well so it has some significance for the family and its a place we want to take Lily in the future so she too can enjoy the area. Towering over all of this is The Blade. A 14 storey glass and steel office building that was completed a couple of years ago. Some consider it an eyesore, but to me its progress and a sign of an ever evolving town.
